RNP AR used to be for accessing challenging airports like Kathmandu, Innsbruck or Lhasa. Now we’re seeing it being applied to improve efficiency. Airbus Consulting recently concluded a project in China for its first implementation of the Established on RNP AR (EoR) concept. Combining RNP AR and ILS on parallel runways can dramatically reduce track miles for the airline (20NM per approach) and improve capacity for the airport (4 mins flight time removed) with no significant ground infrastructure needed. As the fleet evolves and RNP AR equipage becomes more prevalent, airports, airlines and ANSPs can unlock the benefits.
