Cheryl Chen is an air traffic controller from Taipei, Taiwan who began her career in 2016 at the Taipei Taoyuan International Airport and Taipei Songshan Airport control towers.She then obtained her enroute radar rating in October 2024 and is now serving in the Safety and Planning Office, serving safety management and international affairs liaison role at Air Navigation and Weather Services (ANWS).
Before joining the aviation industry, Cheryl spent over a decade in the social sciences, earning her academic training in sociology at the University of Cambridge, where she researched politics, family, intergenerational relations, and migration.
Beyond her operational duties, she serves as the Executive Vice President for the Asia Pacific Region at the International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers’ Associations (IFATCA) and as the President of her home Air Traffic Controllers’ Association. She is also a strong advocate for gender equity in aviation and initiated IFATCA’s Speaking English Program, which has supported many pilots and controllers in enhancing their English communication skills.
