Chief Air Traffic Controller (Training & Safety)
Mr. Honig brings over 30 years of experience in air traffic management with the Civil Aviation
Department of Hong Kong. As a licensed Air Traffic Controller at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA),
he possesses extensive operational expertise. After serving more than a decade as a frontline controller, he
advanced to become a qualified airspace and flight procedure designer, leading initiatives to enhance
runway capacity and air traffic handling capabilities, which significantly reduced delays and carbon
emissions.
In his role as Project Manager for the HKIA Three-Runway System (3RS) Project, Mr. Honig guided
multi-stakeholder teams to deliver new ATC procedures, flight procedures, facilities, and safety
management initiatives. His effective leadership culminated in the successful commissioning of the 3RS
in November 2024, earning him a Civil ServiceCommendation Award from the Hong Kong SAR
Government in 2025.
Additionally, Mr. Honig actively participates in ICAO and CANSO matters for the APAC region,
contributing to advancements in air traffic flow management. His involvement in various meetings and
initiatives has helped improve efficiencies in air traffic flow operations across the region.
